Singing Courses & Choral Workshops

2013

2 February 2013

The Tudors at Prayer - A one-day workshop led by Dr. Philip Cave, focusing on music for four Tudor monarchs: Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary and Elizabeth I, including music by Thomas Tallis, Robert Parsons and William Byrd.

16th century England was a time of great religious, political and social upheaval. It must have a very real challenge to be a composer of sacred music as the country swung to and fro, from Roman Catholic to Protestant monarchs and liturgies. Nonetheless, music of extraordinary beauty continued to be composed throughout this period by the great Tudor composers including Tallis, Sheppard, White, and Byrd. Join us as we explore several works that may have supported the meditations of four very different English monarchs.

Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church. 2315 North Parham Road, Henrico, Virginia 23229

Registration is from 9:30am. The workshop starts at 10am and concludes with an informal concert at 5:00pm. Workshop registration: Regular $50/Senior $40/Students(<25) $25 For more details and application form visit
