Issigeac International Music Acadamy Chorus Course - Haydn Creation - Maison des Services, Chemin des Écoliers, Issigeac, 24560, France

The Choral Course is made up of four half day workshops and rehearsals leading up to a live performance with soloists from the Academy’s Masterclass students. The courses main premise is that singing should be a joy, so our aim is to help students improve basic techniques and develop their skill set so that this enhances their practice and performance. Our Course Tutor and Choir Conductor, Dr Richard Jenkinson, is a hugely experienced musician who can get the very best out of our students. Most of our students sing in a variety of choirs locally, although anyone who enjoys singing is welcome.

The cost of the Choral Course in 2025 is €160 per person. This just covers the course tuition and students are asked to bring their own music with them. You will, of course, be advised what this should be in advance of the course.

Orlando Gibbons and the music of Westminster Abbey - Summer Schools at Lincoln University
This course will be directed by Patrick Craig. This course explores anthems by three towering musicians of Westminster Abbey, focussing on Orlando Gibbons who died in 1625. Robert White’s music has soaring lines which reflect the architecture of the newly added Lady Chapel. Purcell’s music revels in the joyous mood following the Civil War. All three composers died tragically young but have left a rich legacy.

This course is for experienced singers who want to improve their choral technique and enjoy exploring a rich mix of repertoire in a convivial social setting.  Music will be sent out in advance and, while nobody is expected to be note perfect on arrival, we do expect singers to familiarise themselves with the music beforehand. This is not a course for beginners but anyone who has been singing regularly in a choral society or church choir is unlikely to feel out of their depth.

Our singing holidays have proved equally popular with people travelling on their own and singing couples. We all eat together each evening where everyone will soon get to know each other.

The courses runs from Sunday evening, when we meet for dinner, to the following Thursday where we perform our new repertoire at a lunchtime concert - followed by Afternoon Tea.

Choral Conducting Course at Sherborne Summer School of Music, 2025 - The Art of Choral Direction Amy Bebbington director.

Conductors of all levels of experience are welcomed on this course, during which a student’s development through the week is tailored closely to their own individual needs. Essential elements of conducting technique will be shared throughout each day with most of the course spent in a masterclass situation. Additional opportunities, such as working with a large chorus, working with an orchestra and conducting in the course concert, will be shared amongst the members of the course.
A week is a short time, but sufficient to examine the nature of the choral conductor’s craft, including how to prepare a score and plan effective rehearsals, how to build a musical relationship with a group, how our language affects our choirs and what it takes to prepare a dynamic performance.
Conductors of choral societies, chamber choirs, youth choirs, church choirs, organ scholars, etc., are all equally welcomed to what will be a demanding, supportive and encouraging learning environment.
Choral singers who wish to develop their sight-reading skills are also encouraged. They will be warmly welcomed as members of the course and be invited to sing for the choral conducting students. A reasonable level of sight reading would be an advantage.

31 August - 5 September Woodbridge Music Party, Suffolk

The director will be Eamonn Dougan and the early Tudor repertoire will include a piece that came to obsess him when he was a choral scholar at Oxford, Parsons’s O bone Jesu. There will be contributions from other composers born in the opening years of the 16th century, including Tye, Sheppard and Clemens. It will be one of our increasing number of invited courses. They give us greater scope to convene a group of matched voices, which makes for a more satisfactory experience for everyone. There is certainly no notion of stealth or exclusion and anyone can apply to be considered. They are popular, though, and we cannot always fit in all who want to come.

21 - 26 September Spem in Alium 2025 with Patrick Craig in Gourdon, SW France.

This will be one voice to a part and also by invitation. To mark Lacock’s fortieth year, this invited week is built around Thomas Tallis’s forty-part motet, which will be sung with one voice to a part. The other pieces in the repertoire, dating from around 1600 – thirty years after the Tallis – are for double SATBarB choir, so there will be four voices on each line. They include a Magnificat, two psalms and a typically Venetian prayer in honour of St Mark.. Most parts have already been allocated, with just a couple of unfilled seats in the bass section.
