10 - 12 October

The Royal School of Church Music's 2025 Singing Break takes place from 10th to 12th October at historic Auckland Palace, Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham.

Highly respected composer, vocalist and music director Joanna Forbes L’Estrange will lead an inspirational, uplifting weekend of singing. The music will include Joanna’s major new work, A Season to Sing â€“ a captivating choral reimagining of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, written to mark the 300th anniversary of the piece. There will be workshops and a sing-through performance, plus the chance to sing choral evensong including Joanna’s hugely popular King’s College canticles and her responses. Singing Break participants will sing in St Peter's Chapel, one of the largest private chapels in Europe.

In addition, participants will have time to explore the historic town of Bishops Auckland and the Auckland Project site, including its remarkable Spanish Gallery, where dinner will be held on the Saturday evening.

The Music of Florence 2025 directed by Rory Wainwright Jonston.

The course celebrates the musical achievements of renaissance Florence, both by its native composers and those drawn by the city’s dazzling éclat. A programme of sacred music by composers associated with the city, prominent among whom are Verdelot and Corteccia. It will include Du Fay’s complex motet Nuper rosarum flores, written for the consecration of Brunelleschi’s dome for Florence Cathedral. The work has come to be treated as an icon in the history of Western music.

Our aim is to convene a balanced group of around 36 singers. Participants should have straight, blending voices with full dynamic range and be able to response quickly to direction.

Advent in Dresden with Brass.  Directed by Jeremy Jackman.

Runbysingers Singing Holidays invites experienced singers to join us in Dresden later this when the Christmas markets will be starting up and the air will be filled with the aromas of hot Gluhwein and sizzling Bratwursts. And as we celebrate the approach of Christmas by lifting our voices in song, we shall be accompanied by a professional Brass Quartet.

When we are not rehearsing there will be plenty of time off to visit the Zwinger Palace and its museums, take a boat trip down the Elbe, and visit the restored Frauenkirche.
