British Choirs on the Net

Information for Press Officers

British Choirs on the 'Web' was created in 1995 by Rod Cuff. The logo was created by Michael Dillon of McDill Design. The final design included the legend 'British Choirs on the 'Net', so the web site name was changed to accommodate the logo.

Over the seven years of Rod Cuff's ownership the site has grown into the premier 'listings' resource for British Choirs. In August 2002 Rod Cuff passed on the ownership of the site, and associated domain name, to Phillip Tolley.

British Choirs on the Net  remains predominantly a free resource for British, and increasing International, choirs. It is designed to;

  • Support the Choral music and choir participation as a means of multiracial and multicultural integration and as an aid to well being and healthy living.

  • Raise the profile of British Choirs both nationally and internationally

  • Help choirs find new members, and vice versa, and performance opportunities for new music.

  • Encourage the use of web based technology to promote choral music.

As well as the free Choir listings the site also offers information on choral workshops and 'come-and-sing' performances, choir exchange and touring opportunities, music hire and links to International choirs and festivals/competitions.

New listings include subscription listings for 'tour operators' and 'choral related job vacancies'. Additionally two spin-off websites have now been introduced; www.choralclassics.co.uk is a web site offering choral recordings, books and sheet music through 3rd party affiliates programmes, while www.vocalbroker.co.uk is a subscription listing for vocal soloists, choral accompanists and choir directors.

After ten years the British Choirs on the Net has achieved a prominent and established position within the choral community and has the admiration not just of the choirs using the site but also its competitors and imitators.
