American
Cathedral in Paris, France The Choir of the American Cathedral was organized in 1884,
when its Choir School educated 16 boys who, with a complement
of men's voices, sang the offices daily, in the manner of the great
English and continental cathedrals. The Choir School was closed
shortly after World War I, and women choristers were admitted. Today, its singers, of a number of different nationalities, provide
music for more than 80 services each year, including weekly
Sunday Eucharists, special feast days during the week, Solemn Evensongs,
marriages and funerals.

Chantemoy
Part of the music school, the Semoy
choral society is created in 1983 and conducted by Mona-Lisa Fuenzalida. The
first Christmas concert is performed in the church of Semoy. The choir quickly
attracts attention, thanks to its wide repertory, performing concerts with other
choirs and with the children of the music school (Christmas concert, Mother’s
day, Midsummer Eve bonfire in Semoy and Chanteau). In 1988 the name of the choral
society becomes “CHANTEMOY”, contraction of the names of its two home villages,
Chanteau and Semoy. (Actually, it is also a play on words, as “Chantemoy” sounds
in french like “sing me”).

by the choir master. Two styles dominated : Swing (Gospel, Negro Spiritual,
Jazz) and Eastern European slave songs. After having hosted a visit from the
celebrated Varsovy Male Choir, the Layon Male Choir in turn gave several
concerts in Poland. In company with choirs from Russia, the Ukraine, Italy,
Moldavia, the choir took part of the Euro-chorales at Aubigné sur Layon (in
Anjou). On 1995, a summer concert tour of Canada (Québec, Gaspésie) was
organised. At the end of 1995, the Layon Male Choir became the Chœur d’Hommes

Choeur d'Hommes Liederkranz
Founded in 1912 by a few enthusiasts, the Chœur d’Hommes Liederkranz is
one of the oldest association of our town. Very soon, the choir met with
success. Two years later, the choir organized a local choir festival and
inaugurated its flag. But then, WWI put an end to this nice beginning. Luckily,
after the war, the Liederkranz was built up anew and once again was very
successful, organizing song festivals, participating in contests and earning
numerous awards. Word War II caused a new break in the choral activities. In
1945, M. Lucien Sutter, father of our current conductor, took the lead. During
more than thirty years, with great talent he achieved to bring the choir to an
upper level of quality and to get even more awards for his beloved Liederkranz.

Ensemble de chant liturgique arménien AKN
The ensemble Akn works to
revive and develop the traditional interpretation of Armenian
liturgical chant. The performances of the ensemble reflect the work
developed since 1990, which culminated in the creation of the Centre
for Armenian Liturgical Chant Studies, founded in 1998 in Paris by
Aram Kerovpyan. Akn is an ensemble of 10-16 participants depending
on the programme. Its repertoire is made up of sharagan songs
(hymns/tropes), odes, songs of the Offices, and Psalms, sung by
group or solo. Akn interprets this monophonic and modal repertoire
in its original form, accompanied by a drone.

Maitrise des Pays de Loire
The Pays de la Loire are
lucky enough to have one of the few choir schools in France, a
singing school whose renewal was made possible by the Ministry of
Culture in the early eighties. For over ten years, the Pays de la
Loire Choir School has found and kept its place within the French
and European musical world. The prizes received on the Palestrina
contest in 1993 and the first European prize of "Choeurs et
Maîtrises de Cathédrales" ( Cathedral choirs) in Amiens in 1994 bear
witness of its success.

Paris Choral Society
The Paris Choral Society
was created in 1994 when a group of avid non-professional singers in
Paris persuaded the gifted choirmaster and music director of the
American Cathedral in Paris, Edward J. Tipton, to lead them on an
adventure in music and voice. The PCS is now nearly one hundred
strong, its concerts a fixture on the Paris cultural scene, its
acclaim and popularity multiplying by the season. The mission of
this volunteer chorale is to present the finest in choral music at
affordable prices. The PCS's main focus has been on the masses and
requiems of the great composers, sung with full orchestra. The PCS
audiences have enjoyed master works such as the requiems of Mozart,
Faure, Verdi and Brahms and masses by Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn,
Dvorak, Puccini and Rossini.
