Job Title: Director
of Outreach (DoO)
Based at: Based at the The Chorister
School but will work across Durham, Sunderland and
S.Tyneside
Employed by: Self Employed status

Contract: 1
year in the first instance
Salary: £18,088 per annum
Travel: Allowance of 40p per
mile
Hours: 3 days a week to include
one evening and Saturday morning. Also to run two, 1- week duration, Choir
Schools, during the Easter and summer school holidays.
Leave: 6
weeks + bank holidays
Termination notice: 3 months notice by either
party

Terms and Conditions:
The use of a car is essential and a
mileage allowance for necessary travel will be paid at the standard rates,
which will be reimbursed in arrears via a monthly claim system.
Administrative support will be
provided.
No overtime
is payable.
Job Description
Objectives
- The development of choral singing in Primary
schools in Durham, Sunderland and South Tyneside.
.
- The continued development of the Durham
Cathedral Young Singers (DCYS).
- The development of a Teachers’ Choir, which will
have the dual objectives of singing for personal enjoyment and training
through their membership and involvement to work with children in their
schools.
- To run two Choir Schools, one in each of the
Easter and Summer Holidays for children from any of the above.
- To put into place a self funding charging system
to ensure sustainability of Outreach Programme after 2011
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To develop existing links with the Music
departments of the LA’s involved
- To develop the strong existing links with the Area
Sing Up leaders.
- To identify, contact and work in 8 schools per
term, particularly primary schools
that have limited or no singing opportunities for their children. These
will be identified by a number of methods: -
- Through LA music departmental knowledge
- Through Sing Up Area Leaders knowledge and
information
- Through undertaking local research.
- To establish a Teachers’ Choir to support and
develop the skills of new and existing teachers.
- To lead the development of the DCYS ( Durham
Cathedral Young Singers), and ensure the ongoing possibility of singing
opportunities for children from 13 onwards by establishing contact with
the Durham Youth Choir and supporting the smooth transition of the
children from one choir to the other.
- To run two Choir School weeks, one during the
Easter Holidays and one during the Summer Holidays for children from the
ages of 7 to 13 who have been involved in any of the above.
- To choose
and use a wide variety of music, but using mainly resources from the Sing
Up website, so signposting this resource.
- To establish a relationship with The Master of
the Choristers and the Headteacher and identify and co-ordinate the
opportunities for the Choristers to sing and perform with the children in
the other choirs.
- To work with partners and the Cathedral to
co-ordinate three concerts per year.
- To co-ordinate the repertoire of the Choirs to
link where appropriate with the Choristers repertoire to perform at three
concerts per year.

- Oversee delivery of activities and manage their
organisation
- Manage the budget
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation by
ensuring that appropriate records are kept

- Authoritative knowledge and experience of
excellent vocal practice with primary aged children
